6 Questions When Planning Your e-commerce Website
In my previous article, I have established that before you actually give money to the Developer to create your website, you need to engage in some planning activities in order to have a good and successful website. In this article, I want to talk about six main questions to ask when planning your e-commerce website. Follow me as we are going to look at that together in this article.
They are blueprints…
When you have a concrete plan in place for your e-commerce, it will serve as a blueprint for your website. If you take time to determine what you should and what you should not do as far as the e-commerce website is concerned.
It will guide you in such a way that you will have a valuable website at the end of the whole process.
Understand the product…
The major key to success when developing an e-commerce website is to understand your product. Every product have their own unique selling product. The way you will sell household furniture is not the way you will sell casual wears.
You need to have a proper understanding of the audience and the product you want to sell before you will go ahead and market such products online.
Take time to plan…
There is this general assumption that when you are planning, you are actually wasting time that you could have used in developing the product, I do not want to subscribe to this. When you take time to plan, it will help you to avoid error that might come up later on.
You will be able to identify some of these problems and come up with mitigation strategies before you are faced with the reality of the problem.
Now the six questions…
#1 What are the products?
The first question you need to ask is that what are the products that you are trying to sell. When you understand the product that you are trying to sell, you will understand some of the features that you need to include in your website. This will allow you to design e-commerce website(s) that can actually convert prospects to customers.
#2 Who are the target audience?
When it comes to selling products online or setting up businesses, you need to understand your target audience. Understanding your target audience will allow you to do some research about them. When you have your target audience at the back of your mind, you can reach out to them in order to articulate what they are looking for in your products and services.
#3 What is the purpose of the site?
Another factor that you need to put into consideration is the purpose of the website. Which purpose does the website wants to serve? Understanding the purpose will allow you to know some of the features that you need to include on that website.
This will also allow you to measure the performance of the website later on. You will be able to determine whether the website is truly serving that purpose or not.
#4 When is the deadline?
I have seen many people embarking on critical projects and they have failed woefully. Why do they fail in such a laudable project? They failed to work in line with the deadline of the project. When you have a project you need to have the deadline at the back of your mind. This will allow you to set your deadline. You also need to include some buffer so that your timeline you have set actually give rooms for unforeseen circumstances.
#5 How it should be delivered?
Another factor that you need to take into consideration is the development of the website as well as how the website will be promoted. You need to know whether you are going to develop the website in-house or you will hire a Developer for the website.
You cannot make meaningful progress if you also fail to plan how you are going to create awareness about the existence of your website. That is why you have to take the promotion of the website serious.
#6 What is the reason?
Also, you need to consider the reasons why you are developing the website. This will allow you to understand some of the features that you should include on that website. It will also allow you to determine the amount you need in order to deliver an excellent website. It will also be useful when you need to measure the overall performance of the website later on.
I know you might agree with some of the points that I have raised in this article. You might not agree with some of the issues raised. Let me know your views about the topic discussed. We will appreciate it if you can drop your comment. Thanks in anticipation.
